Captivating Swing Coat

Vintage Knitting Pattern

from The Australian Women’s Weekly, 26 March 1938

This swing cape appealed to me as it combines two interesting textures.

The horizontal stripe effect is easily created by alternating blocks of knit with blocks of purl.  The ‘fur’ (as the pattern refers to it) of the front bands is far more complicated.

In copying the pattern to PDF and checking it I noticed it has some interesting pattern construction too, with a shaped back and collar.

I will be swatching the two stitches shortly, to give a better idea of what the texture looks like than is currently possible from this vintage newsprint image.

Notice the matching dress that is visible under the cape – it has a very interesting front closure.  I’ll add that one soon too.
